Splitting large models with pegs
Big or awkward models print better in parts. Split into parts cuts the selected object into two objects, with alignment pegs on one side of the cut and holes (with clearance) in the other, so the parts only fit together one way.
- Select the object.
- Print › Parts › Split into parts.
- Choose at a height (a flat horizontal cut) or along a wire (drag a line across the view, like the wire cutter).
- Set the peg size and clearance, and split.
Each part is now its own object. Split again to make more parts. Export each object as its own file for your slicer.
Where to cut
Section titled “Where to cut”- Cut where a seam would hide anyway: under a collar, at a belt, where an arm meets a shoulder pad.
- Cut so each part has a flat face to print on.
- Keep pegs away from thin walls.
