Multi-colour printing with 3MF

Export › 3MF writes the model in millimetres, sitting on the build plate, with your paint reduced to a few filament colours as standard 3MF materials.

Shapeaway looks at all the paint and picks the colours that represent it best, up to your filament count (four by default, set in the Print tab’s Export step). Each face takes the nearest of those colours.

  • Paint in flat areas of colour; gradients are reduced to steps.
  • Set the filament count to the colours your printer can load.
  • Check the colours in your slicer and swap in your real filaments there.

Bambu Studio reads the colours and asks which filament each one goes on. OrcaSlicer and PrusaSlicer may open the shapes without the paint; separate objects still arrive separately, so you can give each its own filament. Step-by-step for each slicer, and the limits of reducing paint to a few filaments: Opening your 3MF in Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer and PrusaSlicer.
