Sharp edges mode

By default Shapeaway draws the clay’s surface with marching cubes, which gives smooth organic shapes but a fine sawtooth along sharp creases and corners.

View › Sharp edges switches to dual contouring: creases and grooves come out as clean lines, and edges and corners keep closer to their true shape.

Marching cubes (default) Sharp edges
Organic forms Smooth Smooth
Creases and grooves Fine sawtooth Clean lines
Corners of hard shapes Slightly rounded Crisper
  • Hard-surface props, armour, architecture, mechanical parts.
  • Fine creases you want to read cleanly in renders or prints.

It changes how the surface is drawn and exported, not the clay itself, so you can switch at any time. It’s off by default.
