Projecting photo colour
Once photos are matched, Shapeaway can paint their colour onto the sculpt.
Project
Section titled “Project”In the Refs tab, with an object selected:
| Action | Does |
|---|---|
| Project this photo | Paints the object from one photo |
| Project all matched photos | Paints from every matched photo, blended by how squarely each faces the surface |
Each is one undo step. The mask protects areas, and Strength blends the projection with the paint already there. Parts hidden from a photo (behind an ear, under the chin) are never painted from it.
Remove lighting
Section titled “Remove lighting”Remove lighting estimates the light in the photo from the sculpt’s shape and takes it out, so the colour is closer to the subject’s own colour and the realistic view can light it again.
Brush it on
Section titled “Brush it on”The Paint tool’s Paint from photo brushes the photo’s colour on instead, from the photo you’re looking through or, otherwise, the matched photo facing most nearly the way you’re looking.
Carry it on
Section titled “Carry it on”Projected colour is paint like any other: it goes into baked colour maps and coloured exports.
