Installing and updating

Shapeaway installs from a single file, ShapeawaySetup-<version>.exe, from the download page.

  1. Run the installer. It installs for your user only, so it doesn’t ask for an administrator password.
  2. Choose whether you want a desktop shortcut. A Start-menu entry is always added.
  3. Finish, and Shapeaway opens on the welcome card.

The installer also makes .shapeaway files open in Shapeaway when you double-click them.

The first time you run a new version, Windows may say “Windows protected your PC”. It means Windows hasn’t seen this file often yet; it isn’t a virus warning.

  1. Choose More info.
  2. Check the app name is ShapeawaySetup-<version>.exe.
  3. Choose Run anyway.

Why it happens, how to check the file’s fingerprint, and what to do if there’s no Run anyway button: Windows SmartScreen warning. Steam installs don’t see it.

Without a licence key, Shapeaway runs as the free demo: everything except exporting models. To unlock it, paste your key into Settings › Licence. See Demo and full version.

Run the newer installer. It upgrades the installed version in place and keeps your settings, autosaves, matcaps, stamps, sculpts and licence key. After a feature update, the welcome card appears once to say what’s new.

Open Windows Settings › Apps, find Shapeaway and choose Uninstall. Your sculpts are wherever you saved them and are not removed.

What Where
Settings (settings.json) %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Shapeaway\Shapeaway
Autosaves (the newest three) …\Shapeaway\Shapeaway\Autosave
Your sculpts Wherever you save them

Settings has buttons to open the autosave and log folders.
